Northland Youth Theatre present Nina & the Upside Down Tree

October 28 2008

Nina and the Upside Down Tree is the second play by Whangarei based author, Leo Cappel.  It explores the magical beginnings of Mozarts Magic Flute and incorporates simple music for voice, harp, flute and drum.

These are not ordinary instruments, but ancient instruments often designed solely from pictures and descriptions, now lovingly brought to reality.  This play is an enthusiastic romp through the forest with an energetic cast of teenagers, performing specifically for younger children.

Northland Youth Theatre consistently produces quality theatre with teenage casts, where the most common comment from audience members is “I can’t believe those were kids acting!”.  Themes of identity, environment and responsibility are entwined in an adventure through the magical forest.

Opening night is a red carpet affair with nibbles after the show and Leo and Karen have been persuaded to demonstrate some of their musical gems, which they both play and manufacture by hand.

Wednesday 26 November - Friday 28 November, 6.30pm
